n. [School]. Teaches
everything about coffee.
Abcoffee was born in Porto from a desire to share real knowledge about specialty coffee — with those who drink it and, above all, with those who prepare it. Founded by professionals with years of experience in roasting, barista work, and certified training, the school was created to be a space for hands-on, high-level learning — by those who do, for those who want to do better.
Since 2021, Abcoffee has been recognized as a Premier Training Campus by the SCA (Specialty Coffee Association), making it one of the few schools in Portugal with this international mark of excellence. Here, the focus is on certified training for professionals, as well as the creation of engaging and accessible experiences for enthusiasts — because we believe that great coffee starts with knowledge.
More than just a school, we are a hub of coffee culture. A place to explore the bean, the technique, the science — and the everyday pleasure of drinking better.
SCA-Certified Trainers
Diogo Amorim
Diogo is the founder of and head roaster at Senzu Coffee Roasters, and an instructor at Joper’s roasting courses. He holds a Master’s Degree in Coffee Economics and Science from Trieste University, where he is an assistant professor in the Roasting module. In addition he is also a Q Arabica and a Q Robusta Grader. He is our Trainer for SCA courses in Roasting, Green Coffee and Sensory Skills.
He’s the science nerd that makes sure to tell everyone the reason why this particular coffee is good, is because it was planted in the microclimate you can only find in this given mountain that is 2096 meters high in Kenya. Sometimes we think he’s only joking but we eventually realise he actually means it.
Brian Blaker
When a musician finishes two degrees in five years while touring the U.S. to play hundreds of shows, the obvious “break” from all of that work is to get into coffee. Brian has been a coffee professional since 2012, working his way up from simple barbacking to acting head barista and cafe management. He came to Portugal in 2018 where he helped open C’Alma Coffee Room as the head barista and coffee director. Throughout his coffee career, Brian has made appearances in several competitions: The Latte Art World Championship Open, US Brewer’s Cup, Fiamma Barista Open and the Portuguese National Barista Championship where he placed third in 2022.
Brian’s passion for community led him to help unite the Philadelphia coffee scene by regularly coordinating local latte art competitions between the many cafes, a practice that he was then moved to implement in Porto at C’Alma and subsequently other local cafes. Now that he has stepped away from the bar full-time, he has become an AST teaching SCA Brewing and Barista Skills Modules whenever he isn’t playing baseball or his saxophone.
Tiago Nogueira
Barista by profession, coffee lover by passion… and a Computer Science graduate out of stubbornness (or perhaps out of love for machines).
Tiago started in coffee with a shot of espresso and a barista course that opened his eyes… and his nostrils! From then on, it was love at first extraction. Today, he programs emotions through latte art. Between hearts, tulips, and slightly crooked spirals (nobody’s perfect), he finds beauty in transforming coffee into art.
You can find him behind the counter at Swot Coffee House in Valongo, his caffeine headquarters, where he serves espressos with soul and lattes with personality.
At abcoffee, he finds the joy of teaching what makes him leap out of bed (besides coffee itself). He’s our instructor for latte art courses and workshops for enthusiasts. Amid bubbles, grounds, and grinder noises, he shares everything he has learned to help other coffee lovers master the art behind a cup. Tiago will show you how coffee can be so much more than just a drink.
